Richy’s Christmas – English Version below

Richy’s Christmas

I always liked Christmas, as an atheist I just enjoy the festivity aspect of these holy days, leaving apart the spiritual meaning.

It’s the only time during the dark German winter when the streets shine with spectacular lights and the little wood stores are almost everywhere in Berlin, is very nice, and at the same time it makes the city warmer and more comfortable, at least for me, because I see the German winter like “Game of Thrones” winter hehe !

But I think is more interesting for all of us if I speak about the Spanish Christmas.
We normally meet with the whole family for Christmas Eve dinner; we are around 12 people counting cousins, uncles, parents… It’s very typical eat things like fresh seafood, lamb or pork cooked in the oven, the gifts are given the same night, or the next day.
In New Years Eve we celebrate the same kind of dinner, but with the difference that in Spain is a tradition to eat one grape for each bell that sounds at midnight at “La Puerta del Sol” (Is one of most famous squares of Madrid). As it’s impossible to be there because is full as hell, the rest of Spain just eat the grapes at home watching the last 12 bells in the TV. It’s funny because you must eat each grape with each bell and normally the people end up with the mouth full of grapes yelling: Happy New Year !! After it everybody goes to hang out during all the night and part of the next day.

And as a last curiosity, just say that the Spanish Christmas are one week longer because formerly the gifts were given with the arrival of the Three Wise Men on the 6th of January. Don’t worry, the kids also have gifts in Christmas Eve too, and they prefer Santa Claus because they have more time to play with the new things during the vacations and not at the end of it.

I also liked to say that I don’t have any Christmas song that I like it, so I listen “Buried by Christmas” from Wednesday 13 haha!
