Michaela: Was bedeutet der Name Navian?

Martin: Nach reichlich Überlegung Petrucci (Dream Theater).

Ola: Recht schnelle Antwort Antonio Sánchez (Jazz Drumer).

Sehr gerne! Danke für den riesigen Support! Wir sind begeistert! Was wir gern von euch hätten, streamt das Album, folgt uns auf den social Medias, damit ihr immer auf dem Laufenden seid, was unsere Musik angeht. Danke nochmal an euch für das Interview.

The release of Navians debut „Cosmos“ was on November 15th and what can we say? They naild it, it is awesome. It’s an instrumental album, that kind of music that takes your mind away and does not need any lyrics.
Navian are three dudes, they got to know each other during their studies for their bachelor’s degree of contemporary music. After a concert of Polyphia, they decided to do there own music, and if you haven’t listened to „Cosmos“ yet, you should really do it right now!

Michaela: Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.

Thank you for taking the time to talk! And for giving us a 10/10 that is insane! So happy you like the album!

Michaela: What is the meaning of the name Navian?

So the thing was, we were sitting and trying to come up with a name at the last minute before our first show, like every other band. We ended up on pinterest searching for „Soothing Words” and found the word „Scandinavian”. We took the word, sliced it in half and called it a day. Not a magical story but we ended up with a name we like.

Michaela:
Why did you decide to do an Instrumental Album and will there be one with a Lyrics one day?

We knew we wanted to do instrumental music from day one. The band is a result of listening to the artists that inspire us which naturally made it an instrumental project. The album is instrumental because we only play instrumental music. Maybe one day we will have a feature with a vocalist, but nothing permanent.

Michaela: We already know that bands like Plini, Intervals and Polyphia had an important influence on you and your kind of music.

What kind of bands or artists did you listen to in your childhood and how far did they take place in your growing up as musicians?

That is really different for all us as we grew up listening to different music. Martin grew up with a lot of different music playing during his childhood with everything from pop to rock. With that he was inspired from a young age from a lot of different music. Some noteworthy names were Metallica, Coldplay & Dream Theater. Ola comes from a musical family growing up with music being both played and performed during his childhood. But some names that were close during that time were, Dream Theater, Paramore & Rise Against. Alex grew up on ABBA as he grew up in Sweden, but his inspiration from his childhood was Marcus Miller, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Korn.

Michaela:
Is there any kind of music you really don’t like?

We think we all agree that all music can be good, it all depends on the listener.

Michaela: What would you like people to know about your music and the feelings or messages that you are expressing?

We think the cool thing about our music, since it is instrumental, its different to every listener. We are more interested in hearing what people get from our music.

Michaela: If I´m not wrong, you play an eight string guitar. Why did you decide to use this guitar and do you own different ones?

I had a seven-string guitar for the longest time, but I always liked the idea to have more choice when writing music. It was kind of a natural solution for both wanting more choice and when writing the album to pick up an eight string. But it is worth mentioning that the guitar was not bought for the album but rather ended up being used a lot. I do own different guitars! The eight string is a Strandberg Boden Classic 8 and my main guitar is an Ibanez AZ Prestige.

Michaela:
When did you know you want to be musicians?

We all grew up playing and dreaming about being musicians. It has always been a goal for us to do what we love, so you could say from early childhood.

Michaela:
How do you feel about the fan and media reactions to Cosmos, did you get what you expected or hoped for?

It has been beyond all expectations! We have been getting messages, reviews, interviews etc! It has been such a blast reading and answering it all! We are so thankful for the attentions surrounding our debut-album!

Michaela: Who is in your opinion the best guitar, bass player and drummer, dead or alive?

Martin, after a lot of thinking says Petrucci, Ola quickly mentions Antonio Sánchez , Alex without a doubt thinks its Marcus Miller.

Michaela: What kind of equipment do you use for concerts and what are the differences to the stuff you use for recordings?

Its pretty much the same for both live and in studio. We do use some synths and different instruments for some parts when we recorded the album. But mostly we use the same equipment we use live. Martin used the guitars mentioned above, an AxeFX 2 for recording the album. Recently he switched over to a Kemper Stage for live and future recordings. Alex used a Sadowsky Metro Express made in Japan. For sounds we used the Darkglass and Parallax plugin from Neural DSP. For live use he currently uses the Neural DSP Quad Cortex. For the drums Ola used a different kit for the recording that what he uses live. During the recording he used a mix of different shells between Yamaha Recording Custom and Q Drums Co, for the cymbals he used Istanbul Agop and Meinl and for the snare he used a Matt Halpern Mapex Signature. For live use he uses his own Sonor SQ2 beech kit, same brands for the cymbals but with a bit more attack and projection and a for the snare he uses a Gretsch Bell Brass.

Michaela: If you like to direct the words directly to your fans … here you go
